This waterfall on Log Hollow Branch can be accessed several ways but the only one I’m going to recount is the one I took. I included it on a 5.2-mile loop that hit all of the waterfalls on FR5043. This one requires a lot of effort, and it just ain’t that nice. If you want a quiet walk in the woods, this might be a place to get away from the crowds in Pisgah. If you do what I did you can hit 9 waterfalls on this hike.

Trailhead GPS: (35.32622 -82.80191)

Trailhead Drive: From the intersection of US64/NC280/US276 in Brevard, follow 276 10.3 miles to the turn for FR475B (Headwaters Road) on the left. From the Blue Ridge Parkway, the right turn to FR475B is about 4.7 miles. FR475B connects with 475 not too far from the fish hatchery so you could come up from the bottom too. From the intersection with US276 drive 1.6 miles. This is a gravel road with frequent turnouts to provide for two-way traffic. On my recent visit, the roadbed was in good shape. You will get some winter views of Looking Glass Rock before you reach the gated FR5043. FR5043 will be on the right at the apex of a hairpin turn to the left. Make sure to park so as to not block the gate.

I am strictly giving directions to this waterfall. Follow FR5043 past Log Hollow Falls (0.5 miles from TH) and Logging Road Falls (1.1 miles from TH). At 2.2 miles, you leave the road for a trail. It is very confusing since there is a lot of downfall here. This intersection is at 35.31771, -82.81961. Make a right and start climbing. In 0.2 of a mile, you will come to a forest road. make a right. This road will lead you to the 2 waterfalls further up Log Hollow Branch. Less than a mile from where you turn onto the road, you will pass the top of Upper Logging Road Falls. Roughly half a mile from Upper Logging Road Falls, you will come to Log Hollow Branch. The waterfall at the 3600-foot elevation is above the road a short distance.

Less than 1000 feet downstream (Below the road) there is another drop. There is no trail to it but there is an old road on river left that will get you to the falls. I presume if you keep following the road downstream it will drop you at Upper Log Hollow Falls, but I haven’t tried it. If you head down to this other drop, it looks like this. Upper Log Hollow Falls 3480 Ft.
