Riley Moore Falls is a 12′ high waterfall on the Chatooga River in Westminster SC, about an hour travel time from US64 and NC107 in Cashiers. While more than an hour may seem like a long drive for a 12 foot high waterfall, it is more than 100 feet wide as it spans the entirety of the Chatooga River.
To get to the trailhead from Cashiers, take NC107 South from the intersection with US 64 and follow it into SC. If you’re coming from Brevard, take NC281 South to Wiggington Road and follow Wiggington Road to SC107 and turn left. SC107 ends at SC28 where you will make a left. Follow SC28 for two miles and turn right onto Whetstone Road. After 0.7 of a mile turn left on Cassidy Bridge Road. Follow Cassidy Bridge Road for 7.4 miles then make a left onto S-37-14. In a mile and a half turn left onto US76. After the left it’s 2.1 miles to the turn left on S-37-748. S-37-748 will take you 2.4 miles to the pullout on the right. I parked at the top of the hill and walked down but you can drive down further depending on your vehicle. As i didn’t want to beat mine up, I walked the mile to the falls.
The hike initially follows the road down toward the falls but when it reaches the lower larking area. At that point the trail enters the woods on the left and snakes its way down to the river. There isn’t much to the trail and as near as I could tell, it was the only trail in this area so there is little chance of getting lost. There is a large sandy area on river right and ample places to set up and take a picture. This is a popular hangout spot so unless you want a lot of people in your pics, I suggest getting here early.
