Note: The parking for the Henwallow Falls on the road leading into Cosby Campground. The road can be closed at times. Check at the visitor center before heading to the trailhead or visit the park website for a current list of closed trails and roads at: https://www.nps.gov/grsm/index.htm

Where to park: There is hiker parking in Cosby at 35.75637, -83.20855.

The hike: From the Cosby hiker parking lot, walk the entrance road away from the campground. If you were paying attention on the way in, you would have seen the Gabes Mountain Trail on the right. When you’re walking back to it, the trailhead will be on your left. From the trailhead to the spur trail to the base of the falls is right about 2.0 miles. The intersection with the spur path is signed. Make a right and head down the spur to the base of the falls. The trail is 0.2 of a mile long and drops about 175 feet, much of it when you get closer to the falls. I stumbled on this one at the end of a long hike and decided to check it out, and while completing the hike back to Cosby, I passed a few hikers heading into the falls. It seemed like it was a popular hike for people camping at Cosby.
