Home Alphabetical Listing Numerical Listing Location Listing FR1206
This tributray waterfall above Slate Rock Creek Falls is NOT something you will want to make a trip to visit. You can include it with a hike to Slate Rock Creek Falls, but with FR1206 gated at FR477, it is a long walk to get to either of these watertfalls. This was something I saw when hiking the Slate Rock Creek trail as part of the Pisgah 400. I don’t know why else you’d be hiking above this waterfall.
Starting at the convergence of 64/280/276 near Brevard, head North on US276 11.7 miles to Yellow Gap Road (FR1206). If you’re coming in from the Blue Ridge Parkway Yellow Gap Road is on the left 3.0 miles from the stop sign at the base of the ramp. The gravel road is marked with a small brown sign indicating 1206. You will be on FR1206 for 3.3 miles. You will pass the Barnett Branch Trail after 1.3 miles and reach the intersection with FR476 after 3.3 miles. The road is gated here, adding 3.4 miles of road walking to the hike in each direction.
After walking the road, the trail will shift to the Slate Rock Creek Trail, which is on the left. The trail isn’t overly challenging. At 0.9 miles you will come to the scramble path to to Slate Rock Creek Falls. The unnamed trib id 0.2 of a mile further upstream. It ain’t much but if you’re hiking this trail, it’s worth a cell phone shot or two.
