Ben’s Sluice is a nice cascading section of the Middle Saluda River. This is another one Axel loves to swim at. It’s not a hard hike to it, and if you add in Jones Gap Falls, it makes it worth the effort. I don’t know that four miles for Ben’s Sluice alone can be justified. To get to it, followed the directions to Jones Gap Falls. To get to Ben’s Sluice, continue on the Jones Gap Trail for another 0.35 of a mile. You will see the obvious path down to the river on your left, providing you’re paying attention. Two pics of this one. In the first you can see Axel after swimming across the pool.
