Upper Laurel Fork Falls is a real beauty, and if you plan your visit at the right time of the year and Canebrake Road is open, you can drive all the way to the point where you have to buswhack down the steep grade. If the gate is closed, it means a lot of road wlaking.
The trailhead: If the gate is closed, the trailhead parking is the same as Virginia Hawkins Falls. The GPS for the parking is: 35.04414, -82.83821.
The hike: If the gate is closed, start by haking past the gate on Canebrake Road. The first 0.4 is pretty steep, and even though the climb moderates, it is exclusively uphill for the first 0.8 miles. Once you crest the ridge, it’s a moderate descent toward the falls. You can see it during the road about 0.3 into the descent.
