Where to park: The parking for Cutler Falls is on the side of Speartop Lane across the street from an old barn. I wasn’t entirely comfortable with this arrangement, but it worked out okay. The GPS of where I parked is: 36.01943, -82.02542.
The hike: The hardest part of this hike is finding where the trail actually starts. There was a field of weeds on the right side of the road, and just a little further up, there was a spot to enter the woods on an old road. It will feel like you’re walking through someone’s backyard when you start out, but soon enough the road will veer away from the house. Going by the topo map, all of the property on the right side of the road when your facing the direction you were driving is public. The other side of Speartop Lane is private. The road will cross Justice Creek half a mile into the hike and remain on that side of it all the way to the falls. The road will climb gently all the way to the falls, gaining about 700 feet over 1.3 miles. There are some other roads that intersect this one, but on my hike, it was pretty obvious which one was the one I needed to be on. Once you get close to the falls, there is a steep scramble down to the base requiring you to drop off the left side of the road if you want a closer look.
