Parking: Parking for Still Falls is on FR106. From Old NC105 to the gate blocking access on FR106 is about 2.5 miles. Park without blocking the gate. FR106 is seasonally gated, and if the gate is closed, the hike will be much longer. The gate is located about here: 35.82003, -81.95888. Old NC 105 can be accessed from either end, NC126 or NC183 depending on where you’re coming from.
The hike: The hike starts on FR106 (Dobson Knob Road) by hiking past the gate. This part of FR106 is part of the MST, the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. The road doesn’t have a lot of elevation as it follows the mountainside toward Dobson Knob. At 0.6 from the gate, there was a trail on the left side of the road that led steeply down the bank. I left the road at 35.81916, -81.96788. The path turned right after it descended about 75 feet, and from there is stayed on a level course all the way to the falls. There wasn’t much to the hike, and on my visit, there wasn’t much to the falls. I’ve seen pictures with higher flow, and the falls looked great. It was looking a little weak when I was there. Eventually I’ll get back this way again when conditions are more favorable.
