Parking: The parking for Burgan Creek Falls is on Atoah Road, also known as Rifle Range Road. Where we parked was directly across from the shooting range. Atoah Road can be access from NC143, Snowbird Road west of Robbinsville. The GPS of where we parked is: 35.26891, -83.84589.
The hike: From the shooting range, walk Atoah Road back toward NC143 for approximately 0.2 of a mile to a gated forest road on the right. The road will climb steeply away from Atoah Road. In another 0.2 of a mile, look for a trail on the right and follow it higher up the grade. This next segment is the steepest part of the hike, and unlike many waterfall hikes, this is one of the few where the hike out is downhill. The trail will top of close to the creek and then descend to creek level and cross to river right. The hike from the crossing to t4h base of the falls is primarily on river right and is less than half a mile. Burgan Creek Falls was a pleasant surprise, and one I have been back to several times.
