Newt Falls is the next drop below Upper Steels Creek Falls on Steels Creek. It is located below FR496, and when I accessed it, I started at the old MST parking area (35.94714, -81.85548) 0.9 miles from NC181 on FR496. The old MST leaves the back of the parking area and parallels FR496. The old MST crosses the top of the falls, but if you want to reach the base, you need to bushwhack down the hillside before reaching the creek and sidehill over. It wasn’t hard to pick my spot, but I don’t have a landmark to provide. I really like this waterfall. In the second picture my wife Jennifer is proving some scale at the top of the falls. If you have someone take your picture while you’re up there you can tell your friends, “look at what I climbed.” They’ll never know.
