Pinkie Falls is a roadside waterfall accessed off Flat Mountain Road close to Highlands. It is by no means a large waterfall but more a series of small drops on a nice wooded creek. If it weren’t for the ease of access this would be one to skip but if you’re driving from Highlands to Cashiers and you have a few minutes a slight detour up Flat Mountain Road is worth it.
To get to Pinkie Falls and the nearby Waterfall on Skitty Creek, follow US64 East out of Highlands as if you’re driving to Cashiers. Just over 2.3 miles from the turn from Main Street onto US64, Flat Mountain Road intersects US64 on the left. Turn here and follow this for 1.1 miles to a crossing of Big Creek. The road makes a left after the crossing and on the right hand side as it heads up a modest grade there is a pullout on the right. Park here.
A trail enters the woods at the pullout and heads down to the creek and the exposed rock on the river right side. You can venture up and downstream to capture different views of the various drops.
When you’re done here, return to your car and head up Flat Mountain Road for another 1.2 miles to the Waterfall on Skitty Creek.
