Lower Brasstown Falls is nothing at all like it’s upstream companions nor is the hike to it. The already steep, narrow trail takes on a new dimension as I was forced to hold onto the exposed roots to make my way downstream. There are ample hand and footholds but the trek will be nerve-racking and absolutely not for everyone. On my visit it was late in the day and with a potentially fatal fall lurking below, I was forced to crawl along the exposed roots, holding on with both hands as a swarm of angry ants were attacking my ankles. Once you get below the lower falls, a steep path leads down to the creek, which you will have to wade if you want to get a good picture. With my ankles burning from dozens of ant bites, the cold water came as a welcome relief!
The only thing left now is the climb out and the hike back!
