On a hiking trip filled with obscure waterfalls off the beaten path, I did manage to get to one waterfall that wasn’t on an obscure creek in the middle of nowhere. While most of the waterfalls on my September 2017 trip are unknown or close to unknown, this one stop wasn’t. Key Falls is a multi-terraced waterfall off of Everett Road near DuPont State Forest. I have it listed with other waterfalls in DuPont because of the proximity. It can be accessed from Everett Road, less than 3 miles from Crab Creek Road, which will take you into DuPont. The falls is on private property but access is allowed to the public. The parking is at the Key Falls Inn and the trail is accessed by walking up toward the pavilion. The trail goes between the Inn and the Pavilion. On my visit, I met a woman who worked at the Inn, who pointed me up the trail. The hike is less than a tenth of a mile to the base of the falls. there wasn’t a lot of water on my visit, which was a shock considering how hard it rained most of the day.

To get to the Key Falls Inn from brevard, follow US64 East to Crab Creek Road and make a right. This is 3.5 miles from the intersection of NC280/US64/US276. Take Crab Creek Road for 1.5 miles and make a right onto Everett Road. Take Everett Road for 2.7 miles. You will see the sign for the Key Falls Inn on the left. Turn into the driveway and park in the lot on the right. The hike to the falls is between the house and the pavilion.
