Hike Directions: You’re going to have to hike the Upper Whitewater River upstream from NC281. It’s part trail, part riverwalk, part bushwhack and other stuff as well. I was short on time and afraid I was going to have to spend the night in the woods so there wasn’t a lot of time to set up and shoot. I was getting the evil eye from one of my hiking partners at this one. The other said, “Are you really taking pictures?”

Hike update 12-13-2025: There is now a trail from NC281 all the way to this one. It’s easy to follow, but it is a bit steep getting down to the open rock where the ribbon used to be. All that stuff on the right side of the ribbon image is gone.

Note the pink flagging tape marking the waterfall. We searched everywhere for another clue as to the location of the trail but we never did find it at this point. FYI, to get where I was standing in this picture, I had to climb down the waterfall!
