Lower Hungry River Falls is a scenic drop on the Hungry River close to the site of an old dam that has since been removed. There is an old structure still located near the base that was part of the dam complex.

Where to park: The parking is at the end of Gallimore Road, at a wide area on the left as you’re pulling in. The GPS for the parking area is: 35.29009 -82.35955.

The hike: The hike starts by passing the gate on the obvious old road leading out of the parking area. This is the same starting point for Case Falls and Briefcase Falls, both of which you will pass on the way to the river. The trail will go through a sweeping left-hand turn and descend to the river over the next 0.3 of a mile, ending on river right below the falls. There was a steep section close to the river, but my last visit was in 2020, so I don’t know how much has changed since Helene.
