Where to park: Parking is roadside on Darnell Creek Road. There is room for one car by the gate: 34.95849, -83.35271. Just past the trailhead, as the road bends to the right, there is room on the outside of the turn to park
The hike: The hike follows the Darnell Creek Horse Trail just beyond the gate to an almost immediate crossing of Hoojah Branch before it starts to climb alongside Darnell Creek. At 0.9 miles, a trail comes in on the right. Stay straight, and about 0.5 miles later, you will see Big Thomas Falls off to the left. There was a sign on a tree at the overlook point, calling it Sky Falls. We didn’t have time to climb down to the base. That’s for another day.
