Rock Creek Falls is one of three drops on a small section of Rock Creek, close to the SC state line. There is a lot of private property on the river ride side of the creek, and our hike in was from Jocassee Gorges, starting in SC.

Where to park: You want to plan this approach when the gate is open on Canebrake Road, where it intersects Horsepasture Road in Jocassee Gorges. There is a wide area where the road makes a left-hand turn, where we parked to start the hike. The GPS for that spot is: 35.05498, -82.87663.

The hike: From the outside of the bend in Canebrake Road, there is a less obvious road that is slightly overgrown. It may be hard to find at first, but once you’re on it, the route is fairly obvious. Follow this road for 0.4 miles to a not-so-obvious split, and make a left. There was something of a path at this point, but that was in November, so in the summer, who knows. I do know that if you stay on the other road, it will go into a tight right-hand switchback, at least based on the topo map. 0.3 miles after leaving the original road, the path will peter out on top of the ridge, and you will be able to hear Rock Creek Falls down to your right. The key here is keeping the falls to your right, following the easiest route toward the falls without veering too far downstream. The upper part of the descent will be on a ridge spine, but near the falls, you need to stay more to the left. Not much more I can tell you.
