Grapevine Hell Falls is a 16-foot-high waterfall on Double Branch, downstream of Double Branch Falls. The hike to it is off-trail and very steep in places, and the payoff at the end is meager at best. The name comes from the tangles of grapevines surrounding it. more so upstream, which makes it impractical to creek walk between this and Lower Double Branch Falls. If you’re hiking to this one, set your expectations accordingly.

Where to park: The parking area is roadside on Double Branch Road, half a mile or so from where the road ends. This is 0.9 miles from Cassidy Bridge Road. The GPS coordinates are: 34.78397, -83.22595. There was a wide area where it was possible to pull off the road.

The hike: The hike is comprised of two parts, the old road and the bushwhack. The old road you want to follow leaves from the East side of Double Branch Road. This would be the side of the road on your left when you’re driving to the ‘trailhead.’ The first few feet of the road are hard to locate, but soon enough, it becomes obvious. The road will do a gentle arc to the right around the top of the knob for the first 0.2 of the hike before being overgrown with small pine trees, forcing it to be abandoned. This is where the bushwhack begins. The grade is steep and overgrown, making for slow going. The best route is straight down toward the creek, following the easiest path. Not much more I can give you, but once you get to the creek, it is only a short trip upstream to the falls.
