Super Soc Em Dog is a waterfall/rapid on the Chauga River, that reminded me of Boxcar Falls in Balsam Grove. The setting and pool are very similar, as is the way the water funnels through the drop. The name apparently comes from the kayaking community,

Where to park: The parking area is roadside on Double Branch Road, just a short distance from where the road ends. The GPS coordinates are: 34.77579, -83.22544. This is around 1.5 miles from Cassidy Bridge Road.

The hike: The hike isn’t particularly challenging or long, and the area appears to be well-traveled. A fallen tree is lying across the access road that leads to a campsite higher up on the hill, and this is where the hike starts. Follow the old road to the top of the grade to an old fire ring, and pick up the obvious trail that heads down the other side of the knob toward the Chauga River. The trail is steep, but it flattens out as it reaches the river and heads upstream toward the falls. Other than one area of downfall, the path is obvious and easy to follow, but as the vegetation grows in during the summer, it might become harder to follow. The path ends at a huge rock that protrudes into the river, and makes a nice vantage to take a picture. You can move up the river left side all the way to the falls, or you can cross to the other side, as long as the water is low. It was chilly on my visit, so I didn’t venture across. The image below is from the protruding rock, giving a wider view of the area.
