The trailhead: The parking for Wash Branch Falls is on Cheohee Road, 1.5 miles from the intersection with SC107. There is a wide area on the left side of the road next to a low flow creek that can be seen tumbling down a black rock. Along the drive you will pass Cheohee Road Falls, which even after a lot of rain the night before was looking kind of meager. This tall waterfall was about 0.4 miles from SC107.
The hike: The hike back to Wash Branch Falls heads up the road since the parking area is past the waterfall. Where I pulled off as 0.2 miles from where I scrambled down to the falls. The bank wasn’t too bad at the top, but the last few feet required a rope, which I didn’t have, but I did have Axel’s leash and two carabiners, which was just enough to make climbing back up from the creek bed a little easier. It’s hard to tell you exactly where to leave the road, but when you get further from the falls, the slope gets steeper and there’s a lot of downfall. With the leaves off, I could see the very bottom of the waterfall, and I aimed for that spot, which got me close enough to figure where to climb into the creek.. There is a Lower Wash Branch Falls, but that is for another day.
