The trailhead: The trailhead is on SC107 at Sloan Bridge Picnic Area. This is 0.2 miles North of the SC107 with Wigington Rd, and a few miles south of the NC/SC state line. The parking GPS id right about here: 35.00355, -830.5415. It’s a popular spot so don’t be surprised if the lot is full. I was there on 12-30 and the lot was full, but this is a trailhead for the Foothills Trail.

The hike: The hike leaves the lower end of the parking area on an obvious trail and heads down to a open area where it bends to the right toward the river. The trail was in good shape, with only a few wet areas, but there had been a lot of rain the day before. Along the way you will pass Upper and Lower Sloan Bridge Falls. There are scramble paths down to both. The one-way distance so Hiker’s Peril Falls is 0.7 miles. The waterfall drops right next to the trail and a new footbridge is at the base, in addition to a sign on the tree on river right with the name of the falls. The flow was really good, but there had been a lot of rain the previous day, and in other pictures I’ve seen, the falls was more of a dribble.

There’s not much to this hike, and it’s definitely worth a visit if the water is up. One nice thing about this one is the banks are clogged with rhodos so even in the winter, it’s still green. The canopy being grown in might make it a little darker in the summer, but I don’t know that it would look much different.
