Waterfall on Fox Branch, for those doing the 500 List, was something I had called “Behind the Boulder Falls.” This pseudo-roadside dribbler is located along NC28 between Fontana Dam and the Twenty-Mile Ranger Station, half a mile from BFE. At 2.9 miles from the entrance road to the ranger station, if you’re heading toward Fontana Dam, there is an unnamed forest road on the left side of NC28. If you go up the road only a few feet, it passes behind a large boulder. I actually heard it dribbling on my way past in June 2024. There is a 12-foot waterfall (a generous estimate) behind the boulder. I haven’t followed the road higher to see where it goes, but I’m guessing it’s used for access to the Orr Cemetery.
