Silver Run Falls is one of two falls in close proximity on this section of Silver Run Creek. The lower falls or main falls is easily accessed while the upper waterfall requires some added effort and is not suited for everyone. The 25 foot high Silver Run Falls is located in a small cove with a large collection pool at the base. Access is via a gravel trail from a parking area on the side of SC107 in Cashiers NC.
The drive to Silver Run Falls from Brevard NC is a long one so plan your day accordingly. You will pass over Toxaway Falls on your way. You can visit the waterfalls in Gorges State Park off NC281S or hike parts of Panthertown Valley. From Brevard follow US64 West from Brevard to Cashiers NC. At the intersection with NC107, make a left and follow NC107 for about 4 miles to a large parking area on the left. The open expanse can accommodate half a dozen cars if everyone parks with this in mind. The trail descends from the parking right by the sign for Silver Run Falls. The gravel path winds through the forest, crossing a small footbridge before ending at the side of the falls.
The hike is kid friendly, regardless of age, although as you near the falls you will want to be careful on the exposed roots. There is an open area to the left of the falls but if you want a better shot, wading into the collection pool and shooting straight on is the way to go. The deep pool at the base is ideal for swimming so keep this in mind on warmer days. You may have to contend with swimmers in your shots.
When you’re done shooting, you can head back to your car via the same trail, or, if you’re ready for an adventure, you can visit Upper Silver Run Falls.
