After 7.5 miles of river walking, bouldering and hiking old logging roads, we reached the last stop on the Toxaway Express, Step Around Falls. More of a cascade than a waterfall, Step-Around Falls is less than 10 feet tall but the entire river is jammed into a narrow slit in the rock, making it seem bigger and more powerful. The falls takes it’s named from the step around, which is a precarious point in the hike to get to the downstream end of the falls. On our trek we went under the step, taking to the angled rock on river left. Step Around Falls is 0.25 miles below Chub Line Falls using the river as the route. This is the last stop on the The Toxaway River Shuttle. Although you could stop at Auger Fork, Maple Springs and Double Drop on your way out.
