Hike Directions: You’re going to have to hike Bonas Defeat to get to it and you will have to get past Grandmas Kitchen Falls as well. I headed up the sloping face of Grandmas Kitchen Falls and hopped the creek at the top. It looked to be the easiest way and it kept me out of the woods. You will wade in front of Talus Cave Falls and pass above Grandmas Pantry Falls along the way. You will also have to navigate an area of the gorge known as the ‘conundrum’. You will have to pass Bonas Defeat Falls. We did this by crossing to river left from the viewing area below and scaling the rocks on that side. Slickens Creek is the second tributary flowing into the gorge upstream of Bonas Defeat Falls. The first is Doe Branch, which I did not visit on this trip. After Bonas Defeat Falls, the Waterfall on Slickens Branch is anti-climatic. The fact it dumps right into the Tuckasegee River makes it worth a stop.
